1984 John Tonelli New York Islanders Stanley Cup Finals Game Worn Jersey - Video Match
Lot #60
This home white mesh gamer by CCM was worn by John Tonelli during the 1984 playoffs and Stanley Cup Finals. The New York Islanders selected Tonelli in the 2nd round of the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft. Tonelli began his career with the WHA’s Houston Aeros in 1975-76 and spent 3 seasons in the fledgling league before joining the Islanders in 1978-79. Tonelli would spend the next 8 years of his career on Long Island where he played a major role in helping the Islanders to dynasty status as they hauled in 4 straight Stanley Cups from 1980-83. A deadline deal in 1986 sent Tonelli to Calgary and proved fruitful for the winger. A couple of months later Tonelli found himself in the Stanley Cup Finals for the 6th time in 7 years, as his Calgary Flames fell to Montreal. After 3 years in Calgary, John moved to LA where he represented the Kings for 3 seasons. He wrapped up his career with partial seasons in Chicago and Quebec. All told Tonelli spent 14 years in the NHL and another 3 in the WHA. He ended his NHL career with 325 goals to go along with 836 points in 1028 games played. The 1984-85 season saw Tonelli set career bests for goals with 42 and points with 100. Tonelli played in 2 NHL All Star Games and was twice a 2nd Team NHL All Star.

The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, stitch pops, wear to the fight strap and inner pilling. Shown above are some outstanding video matched highlights of Tonelli wearing this exact jersey during Game 1 of the 1984 Stanley Cup Finals. Considered the best corner man in the game and known for scoring and assisting on some of the most important goals in Islanders history will make this a welcomed addition for any Islanders collector. An outstanding video matched Stanley Cup Finals example that was worn during the New York Islanders “Drive For Five” as they attempted to win their 5th Stanley Cup in 5 seasons, choice!
