GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET is pleased to bring this exciting collection of game worn enforcers, tough guys and instigators to the hobby exclusively thru our Fall 2018 Auction. These 11 NHL and minor league game worn jerseys have been held in a private collection since being purchased beginning nearly 20 years ago and have been out of hobby circulation ever since. Included in this group of legendary tough guys are some extremely difficult to find players and styles, most which are being offered at auction for the first time!

This road blue knit gamer by CCM was worn by Dave Maloney during the 1984-85 NHL season. The jersey was then recycled and worn by Phil Russell during the 1986 pre-season. The New York Rangers selected Dave Maloney in the 1st round of the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft. Maloney made his NHL debut with the Rangers in 1974-75, his home for 11 seasons. During that span, Maloney made a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals in his first year as the Rangers Team Captain. Maloney was traded to the Buffalo Sabres during his 11th and final NHL season. He played his final 53 games as a member of the Buffalo Sabres. Many don’t recall how tough a player Maloney was. In 657 games played this fearless leader compiled 1154 PIMS.

The Chicago Blackhawks selected Phil Russell in the 1st round of the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft. Russell made his NHL debut with the Hawks in 1972-73. He spent parts of 7 seasons wearing Chief Indian Head before going on to represent the Atlanta Flames, Calgary Flames, New Jersey Devils and finally the Buffalo Sabres. This tough guy played in 1016 games over the course of 15 NHL season. During that time, Russell battered and bullied his way to 2038 PIMS.

The game wear on this size 52 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, fight abuse, a torn front collar, heavy inner pilling and more than a dozen team-sewn repairs. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Maloney wearing this exact jersey during the 1984-85 season. Of course, the Sabres stripped Maloney’s nameplate and applied Russell’s for use during the 1986 pre-season. A well-worn photo matched example, donned by a pair of tough customers at the end of their respective careers and removed from hobby circulation for quite some time.
