1984-85 Ulf Samuelsson Hartford Whalers Game Worn Jersey Rookie
Lot #192

GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET is pleased to bring this exciting collection of game worn enforcers, tough guys and instigators to the hobby exclusively thru our Fall 2018 Auction. These 11 NHL and minor league game worn jerseys have been held in a private collection since being purchased beginning nearly 20 years ago and have been out of hobby circulation ever since. Included in this group of legendary tough guys are some extremely difficult to find players and styles, most which are being offered at auction for the first time!

This road green mesh gamer by CCM was worn by Ulf Samuelsson during the 1984-85 NHL season, his rookie year. The Hartford Whalers selected Samuelsson in the 4th round of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. Samuelsson spent the first 7 seasons of his career with the Whalers before a trade sent him to the Pittsburgh Penguins at the deadline in 1990-91. Samuelsson then went on to capture back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Penguins in 1991 and 1992. He spent parts of 5 years wearing the Pittsburgh black and gold, and then another 4 with the Rangers before a partial year in Detroit and a final season with the Flyers.

Ulfie will certainly go down as one of the most despised players of the modern era, assuming he wasn’t on your team. In a 1000+ game career, Ulfie amassed nearly 2500 PIMS. He may be best remembered historically for derailing the Hall of Fame career of beloved Boston Bruins forward Cam Neely with what most agree was a cheap shot to Neely’s leg. Ulf was a member of Team NHL in Rendezvous ‘87 against the Russians and also represented his native Sweden in the 1991 Canada Cup and the 1998 Olympics.

The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, general filth, a pinched collar, inner pilling and a team-sewn repair. Ulfie earned the first 83 PIMS of his career as he appeared in 41 games as a rookie while wearing this sweater during road games. A terrific example that had been removed from hobby circulation for the past couple of decades, featuring nice game use and worn by this instigator extraordinaire during his rookie season.
