This home white heavy mesh gamer by CCM and Gunzo’s was worn by Steve Larmer during the 1984-85 playoffs. The Chicago Blackhawks drafted Larmer in the 6th round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. After brief call-ups in 1980-81 and 1981-82, Larmer earned a full-time gig in Chicago beginning in 1982-83. As a rookie he would earn All-Rookie Team Honors and capture the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s rookie of the year, thanks to a 43-goal and 90-point effort while going an impressive +44. Larmer spent 13 years wearing the Chief Indian Head crest and admirably representing the city of Chicago during which time he netted 40 or more goals 5 different times. His final 2 years in the NHL were spent with the New York Rangers where, in 1993-94, he won his only Stanley Cup. This Iron Man appeared in 1006 career games. Larmer lit the lamp 441 times, added 571 assists and ended his distinguished career with 1012 points. Steve played in 2 NHL All Star games and was also busy on the international stage where he helped Team Canada win the 1991 Canada Cup, as he potted 6-goals and 11-points in 8 thrilling games of action, and also helped Team Canada to a Silver Medal in the 1991 World Championships.
Considered a grail by many Hawks collectors, Larmer gamers have always been in high demand. Offered here is Steve’s home playoff jersey from the Hawks exciting run to the Conference Finals in 1985. After battling with and eventually dispatching their division rivals; the Detroit Red Wings and the Minnesota North Stars, the Hawks fell in the Conference Finals against the Edmonton Oilers dynasty in a hard fought 6-game series. Larmer was a standout in the playoffs, appearing in all of the Blackhawks 15 playoff games and scoring 9 goals and 13 assists for 22 points while wearing this jersey on home ice at the United Center!
The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer and inner pilling. Shown above are some fantastic video matches of Larmer wearing this exact jersey during the 1985 playoffs against the Edmonton Oilers. Another exciting bonus for prospective bidders is the nameplate, which features the spelling S. Larmer thanks to his younger brother Jeff, who spent a brief time as a member of the Hawks during the mid 1980’s. The desirable Gunzo’s on the back tail and the old school vintage Hawks crest only add further appeal to this tremendous offering. The availability in the hobby of a vintage Larmer Blackhawks gamer has been few and far between. Don’t miss your opportunity to land this video matched treasure, choice!
