Description
1984-85 Nevin Markwart Boston Bruins Game Worn Jersey
Lot #546

This home white mesh gamer by Alpha Sportswear was worn by Nevin Markwart during the 1984-85 NHL season, his sophomore year. The Boston Bruins selected Markwart in the first round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. Nevin began his NHL career in Beantown in 1983-84 and remained with the Bruins for nearly his entire career, until a trade sent him to Calgary in 1991-92 during his last NHL season. Markwart spent 8 years wearing the Bruins black and gold colors. Despite his size, standing at less than 6 feet tall and weighing in at 175 lbs. Markwart took on all comers in classic Bruins fashion. In 309 games he accumulated 794 PIMS. His most aggressive years came in 1985-86 and 1986-87 where he played in 65 and 64 games respectively and racked up PIM totals of 207 and 225.

Alpha Sportswear was a San Fransisco, California based company who produced a lone set of Bruins home jerseys that were worn sparingly and sporadically at best during the 1984-85 NHL season. Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the Alpha and size 50 tagging. The game wear on this sweater is on the lighter side with some bloodstains worthy of mention around the area of the front collar, a heavily faded wash instruction tag sewn to the inner hip seam and fine inner pilling. Shown above, for your enjoyment, are some video highlights of Markwart letting fly in front of the Boston Garden fans. Alphas are coveted among Bruins fans and type collectors alike while easily ranking among the rarest of any NHL jersey from the post expansion era, with a scant few examples known to exist in the hobby. Your chance to pick up a true vintage style rarity, worn by this fiery pugilist during his sophomore season!
