This road red heavy mesh gamer by CCM and Cosby was worn by Hannu Kamppuri during the 1984-85 NHL season, his rookie year. Born in Helsinki Finland, Kamppuri is a member of the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame. He is perhaps best remembered for being one of the first Finnish born goalies to ever play in the NHL. He first played briefly, 2 games all told, for the Edmonton Oilers in the WHA in 1978-79, before getting his NHL chance in 1984-85. That year he appeared in 13 games despite the crowded situation in goal with Chico Resch and Ron Low taking up residence. It would be Hannu’s only NHL season, as he returned to Finland where he completed his career a handful of years later.
Offered here is what we believe to be Kamppuri’s only road game worn NHL jersey. Sewn into the collar of this heavy mesh offering are the Cosby and CCM tagging. This same combo exists on the back hem as well. The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and puck marks, un-repaired holes, stitch pops, areas of fine pilling most notably around the collar and a team-sewn repair. A rare offering indeed and one that should interest the Finnish collectors who have been in search of this Finnish Hall of Famer’s elusive NHL game worn jersey.
