1984-85 Doug Shedden Pittsburgh Penguins Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match
Lot #72

This road black mesh gamer by CCM was worn by Doug Shedden during the 1984-85 NHL season. The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Shedden in the 5th round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. Shedden began his career with the Penguins in 1981-82 and played his first 5 years with the club before a trade sent him to Detroit. Brief stops in Quebec and Toronto followed prior to Doug retiring from the NHL. Shedden had the rare honor to play on a line with Mario Lemieux during Mario’s rookie season. Shedden had been producing nearly a point per game in the years that preceded Mario’s arrival and was always near the top of the Penguins scoring leaders. In fact, the 1982-83 season saw Shedden lead the Penguins in scoring. After teaming up with Lemieux, Shedden’s numbers took a predictable leap as he entered the 30-goal club in those two years that he played alongside Le Magnifique.

The 1984-85 season saw Shedden put forth a career best 35-goal season as he teamed up with a then rookie Mario Lemieux. Offered here is Shedden’s road jersey from that memorable campaign. The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, inner pilling and a dozen team-sewn repairs. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Shedden wearing this exact jersey during the 1984-85 season. Looking at this long bodied gamer leaves one to harken back to the days when Shedden wore this sweater while teaming up with Mario during his rookie season as the tandem wreaked havoc on the opposition. A beautiful photo matched underrated piece of Pittsburgh Penguins history.
