1984-85 Butch Goring New York Islanders Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match Butch Goring Letter
Lot #21
This jersey originated from the personal collection of Butch Goring and will be accompanied by a letter signed by Mr. Goring.

This home white mesh gamer by Pedersons was worn by Butch Goring during the 1984-85 NHL season. The Los Angeles Kings selected Goring in the 5th round of the 1969 NHL Amateur Draft. Goring joined the Kings in 1969-70 and remained with the franchise for 11 seasons. While with LA, Butch scored 30-goals on 4 different occasions and won the 1978 Bill Masterton and Lady Byng Trophies. The Kings dealt Butch to the New York Islanders at the deadline in 1979-80. This trade proved to be one of the most significant deals in hockey history. It was Goring’s arrival in New York that literally helped kick start the Islanders dynasty. Goring and the Islanders went to the Stanley Cup Finals for five consecutive years after his arrival and they walked away with 4 straight Stanley Cups. Butch was named the winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1981 as playoff MVP. Midway thru the 1984-85 campaign, Goring was dealt to the Boston Bruins where he spent a half season before announcing his retirement. During his 16-year NHL career, this NHL All Star scored 375 goals and 888 points. Goring was a deadly penalty killer who ranked in the top 10 in shorthanded goals 9 different seasons. His 40 career shorthanded goals rank him 5th on the NHL’s all-time list.

The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, heavy pilling around the collar and fine inner pilling. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Goring wearing this exact jersey during the 1984-85 season. Butch wore this jersey until he was acquired by the Bruins midway through the 1984-85 season thereby making it the last game worn jersey of his New York Islanders career. A terrific photo matched offering that originated from the personal collection of Mr. Goring himself.
