1983-84 Steve Yzerman Detroit Red Wings Game Worn Jersey Rookie
Lot #4
This road red mesh gamer by CCM was worn by Steve Yzerman during the 1983-84 NHL season, his rookie year. The Detroit Red Wings selected Yzerman with the 4th overall pick in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. Yzerman is widely regarded as one of the greatest Captain’s in NHL history as well as one of hockey’s all-time great players. His tremendous grit and ability led the Red Wings to three Stanley Cup Championships during his illustrious career.

In a career that spanned 22 seasons, all while wearing the “Winged Wheel”, Yzerman put up tremendous career numbers, scoring 692 goals, 1063 assists and 1755 points. These lofty totals place him in the top 10 all-time in all three categories. His playoff statistics are equally as impressive. Steve scored 70 playoff goals, 115 playoff assists and 185 playoff points. Each of these numbers ranks him in the top 15 all-time. In addition to his three Stanley Cups, Steve also won a Lester B. Pearson trophy as the NHL’s outstanding player, a Conn Smythe trophy as playoff MVP, a Frank J. Selke trophy as the leagues best defensive forward, a Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy and a Lester B. Patrick Trophy. Yzerman netted 50 goals five different times during his career. In fact he had a span of six consecutive seasons beginning in 1987-88, where he scored 50, 65, 62, 51, 45 and 58 goals; quite impressive! The 1988-89 season saw Yzerman set career highs with 65 goals, 90 assists and 155 points, an epic year indeed. ‘Stevie Y’ played in 10 NHL All Star games and represented Team Canada in the 1984 Canada Cup, the 1996 World Cup of Hockey and the 1998 and 2002 Olympics. This legendary Hall of Famer is already looked upon as one of the best and classiest we’ve ever seen take to the ice.

This jersey has been custom shortened in the hem by the team for Yzerman. Sewn into the collar is the born on date that reads 84-01. The game wear on this rookie sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes and inner pilling. The double ribbon styled fight strap remains sewn perfectly in tow to the interior back player numbers. Yzerman captured the attention of the Detroit fans right from the outset, as he netted 39 goals and 87 points during his rookie season, which led all rookies in scoring and was good for a spot on the NHL’s All Rookie Team. This important sweater is the sister to the home example that we sold in our Fall 2013 Auction. A terrific opportunity to acquire a customized rookie jersey of one of the NHL’s all-time greats who in Detroit is simply known as “The Captain”, choice!
