Description
1983-84 Mike McEwen New York Islanders Game Worn Jersey
Lot #142

This home white mesh gamer by Syosset Sports was worn by Mike McEwen during the 1983-84 NHL season. The New York Rangers selected McEwen in the 3rd round of the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft. In 1979-80, during his 4th season with the Rangers, Mike was dealt to the Colorado Rockies as a principal in exchange for Barry Beck. At the deadline in 1980-81, the New York Islanders acquired Mike from Colorado. McEwen would go on to appear in 3 straight Stanley Cup Finals with the Islanders, winning Stanley Cup rings during each of those appearances. McEwen played another handful of seasons after leaving the Islanders, representing the Kings, Red Wings, Rangers for a second time and finally the Hartford Whalers. McEwen was an NHL All Star with a 20-goal season to his credit from his position on the blueline.

Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the manufacturers, wash, size and year tagging. The game wear on this size 50 sweater consists of stick marks, board burns and inner pilling. McEwen was dealt to the Los Angeles Kings just 15 games into the 1983-84 season, his last as a member of the New York Islanders, helping to explain the lighter game use. A beautiful style worn by this 3-time Stanley Cup Champion, which marked the end of an era that saw the Islanders wear multi-colored names on back.
