1983-84 Mario Marois Quebec Nordiques Game Worn Jersey - Good Friday Massacre - Photo Match
Lot #40
This road blue knit gamer by Maska was worn by Mario Marois during the 1983-84 NHL season. The New York Rangers selected Marois in the 4th round of the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft. Mario made his NHL debut in 1977-78 with the Rangers where he played for four seasons. This defenseman enjoyed a 15-year NHL career that saw him also skate for the Canucks, the Nordiques where he served as Team Captain, the Jets and the Blues. In 955 games played this tough customer accumulated 1746 PIMS.

Affixed to the left breast of this gamer is the Captain’s “C”. The game wear on this sweater is tremendous and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, heavy board paint transfer including plenty from the Montreal Forum, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, inner pilling and plenty of team-sewn repairs including a Frankenstein style rope repair to the right sleeve. Shown above are some beautiful photo matches of Marois wearing this exact jersey during the Good Friday Massacre on April 20, 1984 at the Montreal Forum. Considered perhaps the greatest series of brawls in NHL history, Nordiques Captain Mario Marois had plenty to discuss with Canadiens Captain Bob Gainey and referee Bruce Hood in a never-ending escapade of on-ice fights. A terrific photo matched piece of NHL history that shows spectacular game wear and sports the coveted letter of honor.
