1983-84 Jim Archibald University of North Dakota Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match
Lot #261
This white mesh gamer by Athletic Supply was worn by Jim Archibald during the 1983-84 WCHA season. The Minnesota North Stars selected Archibald in the 7th round of the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. Archibald played his college hockey at the University of North Dakota and upon graduating in 1985 he immediately began his professional career. Archibald spent 3 years alternating between the Minnesota North Stars and the AHL’s Sprigfield Indians before playing one final season in the IHL with Kalamazoo. Despite standing only 5’11” and weighing 180 lbs., Archibald knew how to stir things up and did so to an extreme at every level in which he played. During his professional career, he amassed a career best 303 PIMS in 66 AHL games for the Indians in 1986-87.

Archibald’s time at the University of North Dakota is legendary. He is UND’s all-time leader in penalties with 247 and also PIMS with an astounding 540 in 159 games played! Jim also holds the two highest single season marks for penalties with 81 and 78 as well as PIMS with 197 and 156! Not to be left unsaid was the maturation of Archibald’s scoring ability that was showcased during his junior and senior seasons. In 44 games played in 1983-84 as a junior, he netted 21 goals and added 15 assists for 36 points to go along with his 156 PIMS. In his senior year, Archibald played in 41 games and took the college ranks by storm as he netted 37 goals and added 24 assists for 61 points to go along with his record setting 197 PIMS! Archibald won a National Championship in 1982 and was selected as part of the 2002 Hall of Fame Class at UND.

The game wear on this size XL sweater is solid, exactly as you would expect from an Archibald Fighting Sioux gamer. There are stick and slash marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, trauma to the player numbers, terrific fight abuse, stitch pops, heavy inner pilling and a couple of handfuls of team-sewn repairs. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Archibald wearing this exact jersey, taken from UND’s 1984-85 Hockey Guide book. Please take note of the fight abuse and subsequent repair work to the front collar, including the extra black repair thread that juts down at a point into the white middle stripe, a perfect match! Also shown above, for your enjoyment, are video highlights of one of college hockey’s legendary brawls between UND and Wisconsin that features Archibald as a freshman in the center of it all. Sadly the nameplate from the verso has been lost to history, a commonality of early UND gamers. A simply tremendous example, donned by this Fighting Sioux Hall of Famer and bad boy record setter, choice!
