1983-84 Butch Goring New York Islanders Stanley Cup Finals Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match
Lot #49

This home white mesh gamer by CCM was worn by Butch Goring throughout the entire 1983-84 Stanley Cup playoffs, including the 1984 Stanley Cup Finals. The Los Angeles Kings selected Goring in the 5th round of the 1969 NHL Amateur Draft. Goring joined the Kings in 1969-70 and remained with the franchise for 11 seasons. While with LA, Butch scored 30 goals on four different occasions and won the 1978 Bill Masterton and Lady Byng Trophies. The Kings dealt Butch to the New York Islanders at the deadline in 1979-80, a trade that proved to be one of the most significant in NHL history. It was Goring’s arrival in New York that literally helped kick start the Islanders Dynasty. Goring and the Islanders went to the Stanley Cup Finals for five consecutive years after his arrival in 1980 and they walked away with four straight Stanley Cups. Butch was named the winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1981 as playoff MVP. Midway thru the 1984-85 campaign, Goring was dealt to the Boston Bruins where he spent a half season before announcing his retirement. During his 16-year NHL career, this NHL All Star scored 375 goals and 888 points. Goring was a deadly penalty killer who ranked in the top 10 in shorthanded goals 9 different seasons and he is 5th on the NHL’s all-time list.
Following his playing days, Butch went into the coaching profession, winning a pair of IHL Championships, a DEL Championship and also served as the Head Coach of the Boston Bruins and New York Islanders.

Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the born on date “04-84”. Penned on the collar tag in black sharpie is Goring’s number 91. Goring wore this jersey throughout the entire 1984 playoffs as the New York Islanders Dynasty was making a run at their 5th consecutive Stanley Cup. The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer and heavy collar pilling from Butch’s beard. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Goring wearing this exact jersey during the 1984 Stanley Cup Finals on home ice at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island. A beautiful photo matched Stanley Cup Finals offering from the New York Islanders “Drive For Five”.
