1982-83 Tim Hunter Calgary Flames Game Worn Jersey - Rookie
Lot #549

This road red heavy mesh gamer by Sandow SK was worn by Tim Hunter during the 1982-83 NHL season, his rookie year. The Atlanta Flames selected Hunter in the 3rd round of the 1979 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with a 2-game call-up in 1981-82 and finally became a fixture for the Flames at the latter stages of the 1982-83 season. He would spend parts of 11 years in Calgary before finishing his 16-year NHL career with stints in Quebec, Vancouver and San Jose. Immediately after his retirement, this inspirational leader joined the NHL coaching ranks, and has spent the past 13 years working behind the NHL benches. Hunter ranks as one of the NHL’s all-time great heavyweights. In 815 regular season games this 6’2” 200lb. forward amassed 3146 PIMS! He is one of only 9 players to ever surpass that vaunted total. Hunter won his only Stanley Cup in 1988-89 with Calgary. It was during that season that he set his career best single season total of 375 PIMS.

Offered here is Hunter’s road rookie gamer. Tim was called up and played in 16 regular season games and then 9 more in the playoffs in 1982-83. His 16 games yielded an impressive 54 PIMS but were dwarfed by his playoff output of 70 PIMS in just 9 games! The game wear on this rookie sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, an un-repaired gash on the front hem, washed out bloodstains and areas of pilling both inside and out. Shown above, for your enjoyment, are some video highlights of Hunter letting fly while with the Flames in the 1980’s that includes some great footage of Tim in his home white Sandow uniform. Your opportunity to own the rookie sweater of one of only 9 men in the history of the game to amass 3000 PIMS; a certain grail for those who collect the fighters, choice!
