Description
1982-83 Steve Tambellini New Jersey Devils Game Worn Jersey - 1st Year Franchise - 1st Year Goal Scoring Leader
Lot #79

This home white heavy mesh gamer by Sandow SK and Cosby was worn by Steve Tambellini during the 1982-83 NHL season, the Devils first year of existence. Tambellini was the New York Islanders 1st round draft choice in the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft. He spent 3 seasons with the Islanders and was a member of their first Stanley Cup winning team in 1979-80. At the deadline the following year, Tambellini was dealt to the Colorado Rockies where he suited up for 13 games and scored 18 points. In his only full season with the Rockies Steve netted a career best 29 goals and 59 points. He then relocated with the frachise to New Jersey where he played for a single season and scored 25 goals to lead the first year franchise. Tambellini next headed west to Calgary for 2 years and then onto Vancouver where he completed his career with a 3-year stint near his hometown of Trail, BC. On the international scene, Tambellini represented Team Canada in the World Championships as well as the 1988 Olympics. After retiring, Steve went to work in the Canucks front office and rose to the title of Assistant GM. After the Canucks cleaned house in 2008, he was named GM of the Edmonton Oilers, taking over the role from Oilers legend Kevin Lowe.

Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the Sandow SK and Cosby tags. The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired holes, washed out bloodstains, fine inner pilling and some team-sewn repair work that includes a 6–inch long v-shaped sew job on the right sleeve. A tremendous first year franchise example, worn by the clubs inaugural goal-scoring leader that would please any ardent Devils collector, choice!
