1982-83 Roland Melanson New York Islanders Game Worn Jersey – Stanley Cup Season - 2nd Team NHL All Star - William M. Jennings Trophy - Photo Match
Lot #27
This home white mesh gamer by Sandow SK was worn by Roland Melanson during the 1982-83 Stanley Cup winning season. The New York Islanders selected Melanson in the 3rd round of the 1979 NHL Entry Draft. Melanson made his NHL debut in 1980-81 with the Islanders where he played for five seasons. Melanson went on to play for the North Stars, Kings, Devils and Canadiens over the course of his 11-year NHL career. During his time with the Islanders, Rollie won three consecutive Stanley Cups as he split the regular season goaltending duties with Hall of Famer Billy Smith. Rollie was a 2nd Team NHL All Star in 1982-83, the year that saw him share the Jennings Trophy with Billy Smith and finish runner up for the Vezina Trophy.

The game wear on this mammoth sized goalie cut sweater consists of stick and puck marks, goal post paint transfer, inner pilling, trauma and subsequent team-sewn repair work to the crest and a team-sewn repair on the right sleeve. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Melanson wearing this exact jersey during the 1982-83 season. Rollie was spectacular while wearing this sweater as he posted a career best 24 Wins with a 2.66 GAA while leading the league with a .909 save percentage. He finished runner-up to Pete Peeters for the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s top Goalie, won the William M. Jennings Trophy, was named 2nd Team NHL All Star and helped the Islanders to their 4th consecutive Stanley Cup. A beautiful photo matched offering from the heart of the Islanders Dynasty.
