1982-83 Mike Gartner Washington Capitals Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match
Lot #20

This road red knit gamer by Maska was worn by Mike Gartner during the 1982-83 NHL season. Mike, who was the 4th overall selection in the 1979 NHL Entry draft, spent the first 10 years of his career with the Washington Capitals and is considered the greatest Capital to ever wear the team colors. During his 19-year NHL career, Mike racked up incredible numbers while representing the Caps, North Stars, Rangers, Leafs and Coyotes. His Hall of Fame numbers are simply staggering with in excess of 700 career goals and 1300 career points to his credit. He is one of a handful of players ever to eclipse 700 career goals, standing among the likes of Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Marcel Dionne, Phil Esposito and Brett Hull. Mike was consistently good over a very long period of time, which is rather uncommon in the modern era of this grueling sport. He amassed 15 different 30-goal seasons with 8 of them being 40 or better including one 50-goal campaign. He proudly represented his team in 7 different NHL All Star contests. Mike also represented Team Canada in the 1984 and 1987 Canada Cups, two classic series. He was a true credit to the sport and is a most deserving member of Hockey’s Hall of Fame.

The body of this sweater has been custom shortened in typical Gartner fashion. This jersey is simply hammered with incredible game wear throughout. There are numerous stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, fine inner pilling and perhaps upwards of 100 team-sewn repairs, we lost count along the way! Worthy of mention is the nameplate replacement, a reality on all of the regular season Caps jerseys from 1982-83 that we’ve seen over the years. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Gartner wearing this exact jersey during the 1982-83 season. A tremendous offering that was likely worn during the entire regular season by this 700-Goal scoring Hall of Famer, and one which just screams old-time hockey, choice!
