1982-83 Eldon “Pokey” Reddick Nanaimo Islanders Game Worn Jersey - Nanaimo’s Inaugural & Only Season
Lot #205

This road blue knit gamer by Cooper was worn by Eldon “Pokey” Reddick during the 1982-83 WHL season, the only year of existence for the Nanaimo Islanders. Eldon “Pokey” Reddick was a 5’ 8” Goalie who began his playing career in the WHL where he represented the Billings Bighorns, Nanaimo Islanders, New Westminster Bruins and Brandon Wheat Kings. Pokey’s minor league career included a James Norris Memorial Trophy in 1985-86 and a Bud Poile Trophy as 1992-93 IHL Playoff MVP. In fact, Reddick set a professional goaltending record that spring, becoming the only Goalie to ever go thru a 3-round playoff without losing a single game, leading Fort Wayne to the Turner Cup Championship. Reddick made his NHL debut in 1986-87 with the Winnipeg Jets were he played for 3 seasons. Pokey joined the Edmonton Oilers in 1989-90 and won a Stanley Cup later that spring. After a couple of seasons with the Oilers, Reddick played one final NHL season with the expansion Florida Panthers.

The sleeves on this sweater have been custom shortened for Reddick. The game wear on this customized sweater consists of stick and puck marks, abrasions, un-repaired holes, stitch pops, collar pilling, nice inner pilling and some team-sewn repair work at the collar. Pokey was 17 years of age while wearing this sweater amidst a busy 66-game schedule that saw him face a ridiculous amount of rubber. The Nanaimo Islanders existed for a single season, bridging the gap between the Billings Bighorns and New Westminster Bruins. To say a Nanaimo Islanders jersey has been elusive to hobbyists would be an understatement. This is the first time we’ve ever handled or seen a Nanaimo gamer and we are aware of no other examples to have ever appeared at Major Auction. This is a true hobby rarity that was worn by former NHL Goaltender, Eldon “Pokey” Reddick during his first full season in juniors!
