This road blue heavy mesh gamer by Sandow SK was worn by Doug Smail during the 1982-83 NHL season. After playing his three seasons of college hockey for the Fighting Sioux at the University of North Dakota, Smail joined the Winnipeg Jets in 1980-81 as a walk on. Doug would spend 11 of his 13 NHL seasons with the Jets before playing for the North Stars, Nordiques and Senators. Smail was an accomplished two-way winger who is a member of the 30-goal club.
The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, a nice un-repaired skate slice on the left sleeve and fine inner pilling. The loop style skate lace fight strap is sewn to the inside back player number. The satiny material of the old-school nameplate is a sight to behold. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Smail wearing this exact jersey during the 1982-83 NHL season. A beautiful well-worn photo matched example from this beloved defunct franchise.
