Description
1982-83 Denis Herron Pittsburgh Penguins Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match
Lot #38
This road black heavy mesh gamer by General Athletic was worn by Denis Herron during the 1982-83 NHL season. The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Herron in the 3rd round of the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft. Herron joined the Penguins in 1972-73 and embarked on a 14-year NHL career. Denis played for the Penguins at both the beginning and end of his playing days. Sandwiched in between were stints with the KC Scouts and the Montreal Canadiens. While with Les Habitants, Herron captured the 1981 Vezina Trophy as well as the 1982 William M. Jennings Trophy for his excellence between the pipes.

Worn during Herron’s return to Pittsburgh, the sleeves on this gamer have been custom shortened by the team. The game wear on this size XXL heavy mesh goalie cut sweater is solid with a number of stick and puck marks, pilling and team-sewn repair work to the front collar. The player name has been removed from the back of this gamer, a trait not uncommon to this set of General Athletic sweaters. Shown above are a few beautiful photo matches of Herron wearing this exact jersey during the 1982-83 season. This jersey was purchased directly from the team three decades ago and has sat in a private collection since that day. This fresh to the hobby Herron jersey is a missing link for many Penguins collectors who should be more than pleased with this customized photo matched example.
