This home white knit gamer was worn by Clint Malarchuk circa the 1982-83 AHL season. The Quebec Nordiques selected Malarchuk in the 4th round of the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with the team in 1981-82 and spent parts of 5 seasons with the Nords before joining the Washington Capitals for a couple of years. In 1988-89, Clint joined the Buffalo Sabres where he tended goal for 4 years and thus completed his NHL career. It was during his tenure in Buffalo that Clint suffered the worst injury ever to occur on NHL ice, as his jugular was cut and he nearly died during a game in March of 1989. After retiring, Clint had the misfortune of shooting himself in the face during a hunting accident, an injury from which he has also recovered. Malarchuk has spent the past few years as a goaltending coach for the Atlanta Thrashers and more recently the Calgary Flames.
This jersey was worn during the early part of Malarchuk’s career, as he was splitting his time between the Nordiques and their AHL affiliate in Fredericton. The game wear consists of stick and puck marks, un-repaired holes, washed out bloodstains, pulls and pilling. There is loss worthy of mention to the heat pressed numbers. A nice early career gamer worn by this much maligned figure.
