1982-83 Charlie Huddy Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup Finals Game Worn Jersey – “1983 Universiade” - Career Best 20-Goal & 57-Point Season - NHL Leading +62 - Photo Match4
Lot #16

This spectacular Stanley Cup Finals gamer was originally part of the famed personal Collection of Edmonton Oilers Owner, Peter Pocklington, which entered our hobby back in the 1990’s. Official team letters signed by Mr. Pocklington will accompany your purchase.

This home white heavy mesh gamer by Nike was worn by Charlie Huddy during the 1982-83 NHL regular season and thru the Stanley Cup Finals. Huddy began his NHL career playing with the Edmonton Oilers in 1980-81. He would soon become a fixture on the team’s defensive corps, spending his first 11 seasons with the Oilers. During that span, Charlie won 5 Stanley Cups. He would later follow his longtime teammates Wayne Gretzky and Jari Kurri to Los Angeles, where he played for parts of 4 seasons. Huddy wrapped up his career with stints in St. Louis and Buffalo in the mid 1990’s. All told, Huddy spent 17 years and 1017 games patrolling NHL creases and bluelines. While not depended on for producing offensively, Charlie put forth a 20-goal season in 1982-83 and added 20 points in 17 playoff contests during the Oilers 1984-85 Stanley Cup run.

Offered here is Huddy’s home sweater from 1982-83, a very important season in franchise history as well as Charlie’s. The Oilers would make their first ever Stanley Cup Finals appearance that season only to fall at the hands of the New York Islanders dynasty. The lessons learned would serve Gretzky and the boys well the following season, as they dethroned the Islanders and jump-started their own dynasty.

Sewn to the right shoulder of this jersey is the 1983 Universiade patch. The sleeves on this gamer have been customized for Huddy by the team. The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, stitch pops, loads of inner pilling and more than half a dozen team-sewn repairs. Shown above are a couple of beautiful photos of Huddy wearing this exact jersey during the 1982-83 season. This fine looking sweater features the ever-desirable 1983 Universiade patch and was worn as the Oilers trekked to the first ever Stanley Cup Finals appearance in franchise history. Also worthy of note is the Nike logo that is found on the back right hem. These Nike jerseys are a one-year style, being the only season in team history where the Nike logo is not found on the lower back left side hem. Nike watched in dismay as ‘The Great One” tucked the lower right side of his jersey into his pants during the entire 1982-83 campaign, thus covering their logo. Nike’s brass made the logo adjustment to the left side the following year and that was the way the Oilers would wear them for the next 7 seasons! Huddy put up career bests with 20-Goals and 57-Points and he would also lead the entire NHL with a +62 while wearing this sweater that memorable season. A wonderful photo matched example packed with provenance from Huddy’s finest NHL season with terrific game use and the desirable Universiade patch having been worn throughout the regular season and the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Finals!
