Lot #8
This road purple knit gamer by Maska was worn by Bernie Nicholls during the 1982-83 NHL season, his sophomore year. The Los Angeles Kings selected Nicholls in the 4th round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. This Haliburton native made his NHL debut in 1981-82 with the Kings where he played for parts of 9 seasons. Bernie went on to represent the Rangers, Oilers, Devils, Blackhawks and Sharks before calling it quits after 18 years of service. In a career that spanned 1127 games, Nicholls retired with 475 goals, 734 assists and 1209 points. Bernie was a three-time NHL All Star who ranks as the Kings 5th all-time leading scorer. Nicholls remains one of only 8 players in NHL history to score 70 goals in a season and one of only five players to record 150 points in a season.

The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, heavy inner pilling and more than a handful of team-sewn repairs. This sweater was worn by Nicholls during his second NHL season; one that saw Bernie net 28 goals and tab a career single season best 124 PIMS. This tough to find set of sweaters were worn by the Kings for a partial year during the 1982-83 season and remain coveted amongst vintage collectors to this day. A well-worn early career offering by this member of the NHL’s exclusive 70-goal club.
