1981 Charlie Simmer Los Angeles Kings Game Worn Jersey
Lot #43

This road purple and gold knit and mesh gamer by Goodman & Sons was worn by Charlie Simmer during the 1981 NHL season. Simmer began his career with the California Seals in 1974-75. After 2 years with the Seals and another with the Barons, Charlie joined the Kings where he would form the LW side of the famed Triple Crown Line. Skating alongside Marcel Dionne and Dave Taylor did wonders for Simmer’s game. He became a scoring machine, averaging well in excess of a point per game during his 7+ seasons with the Kings. In 1980-81 Simmer put forth a career year with 56 goals and 105 points in 65 games of action. Simmer next moved onto Boston where he skated for 3 years before a final season with the Penguins in 1987-88. Simmer twice netted 50-goals and ended his 712 game career with 342 goals and 711 points. He was the 1986 recipient of the Bill Masterton Trophy, was twice a 1st Team NHL All Star and played in 2 NHL All Star games.

The 1980-81 season was a special one for Simmer as he took aim at Rocket Richard’s record of 50 goals in 50 games. Ultimately Charlie fell a goal short and later in the year suffered a season ending injury. Charlie netted 56 goals for the second year in a row, doing so in 64 and 65 games respectively. His tremendous scoring acumen earned him his second consecutive 1st Team NHL All Star selection at Left Wing.

Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the Goodman & Sons size XXL tag, a size that accommodated Charlie’s 6’3” 210lb. frame. The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, fine inner pilling and a handful of team-sewn repairs. A tremendous representation worn during the height of Simmer’s All Star career.
