1981-82 Wally Weir Quebec Nordiques Game Worn Jersey - Career Best 173 PIMS
Lot #347

GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET is pleased to bring this exciting collection of game worn enforcers and tough guys to the hobby exclusively thru our Spring 2018 Auction. These 11 NHL and minor league game worn jerseys have been held in a private collection since being purchased beginning nearly 20 years ago and have been out of hobby circulation ever since. Included in this group of legendary tough guys are some extremely difficult to find players and styles, most which are being offered at auction for the first time!

This home white knit gamer by Maska was worn by Wally Weir during the 1981-82 NHL season. This Quebec native made his debut in 1976-77 in the WHA where he played for 3 years before the leagues collapse. Wally merged with the Nordiques into the NHL in 1979-80 and spent the next 5 seasons with the organization. Weir played one final year splitting time between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Hartford Whalers. Weir spent 8 of his 9 years as a member of the Quebec franchise where he served as an enforcer from their blueline. In 525 combined NHL and WHA regular season and playoff games played, Wally racked up 1198 PIMS. His single season career best total of 218 PIMS came in 1981-82 in 77 games played between the regular season and playoffs.

The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, material pulls, fine inner pilling and a couple of handfuls of team-sewn repairs. Fight abuse is rampant with multiple areas of washed out blood staining, stitch pops, trauma, a torn and repaired rear neckline as well as a torn and repaired section of the collar that stretches well into the shoulder. The battle scars are evident and have taken their toll on the numbers, fluer di lis’ and crest as seen in the above photos. Weir racked up a single season career best total of 218 PIMS in 1981-82 in 77 games played between the regular season and playoffs while wearing this gamer on home ice at Le Colisee’. A battered enforcers’ gamer hailing from the early NHL days of the Quebec franchise and returning to hobby circulation after nearly a 20-year absence.
