This road red knit gamer by Maska was worn by Tony Cassolato during the 1981-82 NHL season. Cassolato made his professional debut in the WHA with the San Diego Mariners in 1976-77. He spent the following two seasons with the Birmingham Bulls and then joined the Washington Capitals after the collapse of the WHA in 1979-80. Cassolato spent 3 seasons in the NHL, all of them with Washington. Tony also spent 4 years with the AHL’s Hershey Bears where he was one of the leagues most prolific scorers. Cassolato was also the recipient of the AHL’s 1980-81 Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award.
The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, inner pilling and a couple of team-sewn repairs. Also worthy of mention is a nameplate change, a commonality on Caps jerseys from this era. A well-worn fresh to the hobby offering from this WHA and NHL veteran’s final season with the Washington Capitals.
