1981-82 Mike Rogers Rangers Game Worn Jersey
Lot #41

This road blue heavy mesh gamer by Cosby was worn by Mike Rogers during the 1981-82 NHL season, his first with the New York Rangers. Mike stood a mere 5’9” 170 lbs. and overcame his small physical stature with speed and ability. He spent his first 5 seasons in the WHA where he averaged about a point per game. He moved with the New England franchise to Hartford and in his first 2 NHL seasons he tallied 40+ goals and 100+ points in each.

A trade to the New York Rangers before the 81-82 season did nothing to slow him down. Rogers scored 103 points in his first season in New York, which endeared him to the New York faithful. A 100-point season was a rare feat for the Rangers, something that Espo and Gilbert never attained while Hadfield and Ratelle only hit the mark 1-time each with the Broadway Blue Shirts. Mike earned the Paul Daneau Trophy as the WHA’s most gentlemanly player in 1975 and played in the NHL All Star game in 1981. During a short-lived NHL career, Mike scored 202 goals and 519 points in a mere 484 games played.

During the 1981-82 season, while wearing this gamer, Mike became one of the few members in New York Rangers history to join the 100-point club. The Cosby, wash and size tagging remain sewn perfectly in the collar. The game wear consists of numerous stick marks and board burns, board paint transfer, inner pilling and a team-sewn repair on the right elbow. This rates as a very nice example worn nearly a quarter century ago.
