This road blue mesh gamer by Sandow SK was worn by Mike Bossy during the 1981-82 Stanley Cup winning season. The New York Islanders selected Bossy in the 1st round of the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft. Bossy burst onto the scene in 1977-78 and as a rookie scored a record setting 53 goals and won the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s Rookie of the Year. Bossy spent his entire 10-year injury shortened career with the Islanders where he helped his team to Dynasty status by capturing four consecutive Stanley Cups in the early 1980’s.

Bossy’s individual accomplishments are plentiful and simply too lengthy to list in full. Some of the highlights include an NHL record nine consecutive 50-Goal seasons, having done so in all but his final season where he was limited to 63 games after which he retired in his prime due to chronic back problems. In 1981, Mike became the 2nd player in NHL history to reach 50-Goals in 50-Games, doing so in dramatic fashion and tying a mark set by Maurice Rocket Richard four decades earlier. Mike has the highest goals per game average of the modern era at .762, and he led the NHL in goals twice. He is tied with Wayne Gretzky as the only players to have scored 60-Goals in 5 different seasons. Mike is tied with Hall of Famer Joe Malone as the only players to ever score hat tricks in 3 consecutive games. Bossy won the 1982 Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP and is a 3-time recipient of the Lady Byng Trophy. In a career limited to 752 games, Bossy scored 573 goals and 1126 points. His playoff acumen is no less impressive having scored 85 goals and 160 points in 129 games played. Mike was 8-times a 1st or 2nd Team NHL All Star at Right Wing and played in 7 NHL All Star games. On the international scene, Bossy represented Team NHL in the 1979 Challenge Cup Series against the Soviet Union, and played in the 1981 and 1984 Canada Cups. Bossy was enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame upon eligibility in 1991 and had his player number 22 retired by the Islanders in 1992.

The game wear on this size XL sweater is solid and consists of numerous stick and slash marks, plenty of board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, pilling around the collar and inner pilling. The original loop style fight strap remains perfectly sewn just beneath the back player number. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Bossy wearing this exact jersey during the 1981-82 season. Bossy dominated while wearing this sweater during the 1981-82 season. He lit the lamp 64 times and added career best totals of 83 assists and 147 points. His efforts earned him 1st Team NHL All Star honors and yet another start in the NHL All Star Game. The Islanders attained a franchise record 118 points that year and set an NHL record in the process as they won 15 consecutive games between January 21st 1982 and February 20th 1982, all during an era where regular season overtime did not exist. Bossy continued his dominance when the playoffs rolled around adding 17 goals and 27 points in 19 games, winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in the process. An outstanding well-worn photo matched example from the heart of the Islanders Dynasty and the prime of Bossy’s Hall of Fame career, choice!
