1981-82 Joe Cirella Colorado Rockies Game Worn Jersey - Rookie - Photo Match
Lot #66
This home white dureen gamer by Sandow SK was worn by Joe Cirella during the 1981-82 NHL season, his rookie year. Cirella began his career in Colorado in 1981 after the Rockies made him the 5th overall selection in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. The following season he relocated with the franchise to New Jersey and spent the next 7 years with the Devils. Stays with Quebec, the Rangers, Panthers and Senators followed in what was ultimately a 15-year NHL career. Cirella played in the NHL All Star game in 1984. His career saw him compile nearly 1500 PIMS, having had 6 consecutive seasons with 100 or more in the 1980’s with a career best 191 PIMS coming in 1987-88 in New Jersey.

The game wear on this vintage size XL rookie sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, smears of that familiar board paint transfer from the boards in Colorado, stitch pops, inner pilling and a team-sewn repair. A custom skate lace is tied to the reinforced loop style fight strap. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Cirella wearing this jersey during the 1981-82 season. Easily considered the most desirable jerseys in team history, the Rockies wore these Sandow SK dureens during the end of their 6-year existence in Colorado. A stellar photo matched example that was worn during this 15-year veteran’s rookie season and the last for the Rockies before moving to New Jersey.
