1981-82 Ian Turnbull Los Angeles Kings Game Worn Jersey - The New England Collection
Lot #53
This fresh to the hobby example is part of an exciting collection of newly discovered game worn hockey jerseys that were originally sourced from “New England”. This collection is being offered to the hobby for the very first time via the Spring 2015 Auction, exclusively at GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET.

This road purple and gold knit and mesh gamer by Goodman & Sons was worn by Ian Turnbull during the 1981-82 NHL season. The Toronto Maple Leafs made Turnbull the 15th overall pick in the 1973 NHL Amateur Draft. This talented rearguard began his NHL career in 1973-74 with the Leafs, where he spent nearly his entire 10-year NHL career. Teaming with Borje Salming gave the Leafs a deadly duo from the point, and proved to be one of the best tandems in the storied history of the Maple Leafs franchise. February 2nd 1977 is a date that Leafs fans will never forget as Turnbull scored 5 goals in a single game, a still-standing record for NHL defenseman. Most amazing is that Turnbull achieved the feat on 5 shots and is still the only player in NHL history to have done so. Ian’s 79 points in 1976-77 is still a club record for defenseman, having stood the test of time for nearly 40-years! Turnbull was an NHL All Star who was part of Toronto’s core during the days of Sittler, McDonald and Salming and who unfortunately suffered the same fate as many of the Leafs star players and was traded away to LA in 1981. Turnbull played a mere 42 games for the Kings where he netted 11 goals, 26 points and 81 PIMS. Of note is that Turnbull netted 4 of those goals in a single game with LA, tying a team record that still stands to this day.

Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the Goodman & Sons tagging. The game wear on this size XL sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, heavy inner pilling and some fantastic team-sewn repair work. Turnbull gamers in general have been extremely tough to find thru the years. In fact, this is the first and only LA Kings example that we’ve ever had the privilege of seeing. This exciting well-worn offering is completely fresh to the hobby and should make a tremendous addition to any game worn collection, after having sat in private hands since leaving the ice some 30+-years ago.
