This home white mesh gamer by Stall & Dean and Steichens was worn by Gordie Roberts during the 1981-82 NHL season. The Montreal Canadiens selected Roberts in the 3rd round of the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft. This Detroit, MI native began his professional career in 1975-76 with the WHA’s New England Whalers where he played thru the fledgling leagues collapse. Gordie transferred with his teammates to the NHL and played with Hartford for parts of two seasons before joining the North Stars during their Stanley Cup Finals season of 1980-81. Roberts spent parts of 8 years wearing the Minnesota colors. He then went on to play for the Flyers, Blues, Penguins and Bruins before retiring in the 1990’s after 19 WHA/NHL seasons. Roberts played on the Penguins back to back Stanley Cup teams of the early 1990’s. In just over 1400 games played between the WHA and NHL this hard nosed defenseman racked up in excess of 2000 PIMS.
Sewn into the collar of this gamer are the Steichens, wash, size and year tagging. The game wear on this size 52 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, an un-repaired slash gash in the crest area, stitch pops, sweat stains, inner pilling and some fantastic team-sewn repair work of both the single stitched and patch backed variety. Some of the repair work was called upon to completely re-sew the bottom hem that had been torn and piecemealed back together. A well-worn vintage offering that was part of the exciting St. Paul, Minnesota Collection that we originally unveiled to the hobby in the Fall 2015 Auction.
