1981-82 Bob Bourne New York Islanders Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match Bob Bourne Letter
Lot #37

This game worn jersey originates from the personal collection of New York Islanders Hall of Famer, Bob Bourne. Since leaving the Bourne collection a decade ago, this jersey has had just one owner, having sat in a private collection since and will be accompanied by a letter from Bob Bourne.

This home white mesh gamer by Sandow SK was worn by Bob Bourne during the 1981-82 NHL season. The KC Scouts selected Bourne in the 3rd round of the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft. A trade sent Bourne to the Islanders where he began his NHL career as a rookie in 1974-75. It was an important season in franchise history as the Islanders surged to game 7 of the Semi Finals where they lost on Spectrum ice to the defending Stanley Cup champion Flyers. Bobby would become an integral part of the team’s nucleus that would go onto dynasty status in the years to come. Bourne remained an Islander for a dozen seasons and won 4 Stanley Cups before joining the Kings for 2 more years prior to announcing his retirement. Bobby was 3-times a 30-goal scorer for New York, although his biggest contributions were felt in the playoffs during the dynasty years. During the four consecutive Stanley Cup wining seasons in the 1980’s, Bourne averaged a point per game, scoring 74 points in 74 games including many clutch goals. Despite being one of the taller players in the league, Bourne possessed lightning fast speed and he used it to perfection as one of the NHL’s best penalty killers, a constant breakaway threat and a tremendous defensive forward. Bobby represented Team Canada in the Canada Cup and was also an NHL All Star.

The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, a stitch popped front collar that is heavily pilled and inner pilling. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Bourne wearing this exact jersey during the 1981-82 season. The Islanders stormed to a 54 Win, 118-point season, one of the NHL’s best points totals of all-time and both franchise records. The Islanders also set an NHL record that season with 15 consecutive Wins, established during an era when regular season overtime did not exist! Bourne and the Isles went on to win their 3rd consecutive Stanley Cup that spring, completing one of the great seasons in NHL history. Bobby took this jersey home with him following that memorable campaign and kept it impeccably preserved, as did our consignor. This photo matched offering originates straight from this Islanders’ Hall of Famer’s personal collection and will be accompanied by Bourne’s signed LOA.
