Description
1980s New Jersey Devils Green Warm-Up Suit Attributed to Coach Tom McVie
Lot #69

This green warm-up jacket and pants were worn by a New Jersey Devils coach in the mid 1980’s. The manufacturers tag still resides in the hem of the pants but we cannot make it out do to fading. The size is “small” which is why we are attributing them to the 5’8” McVie.

McVie was a career minor leaguer who played in the WHL for the Seattle Totems, Portland Buckaroos, Los Angeles Blades and Phoenix Roadrunner. After starting his coaching career in the IHL, McVie coached the Washington Capitals from 1975-76 to the middle of the 1978-79 season. He then went to the Winnipeg Jets, coaching them to an Avco Cup in the WHA and then moved with them to the NHL where he coached with Bill Sutherland in the Jets first 2 NHL seasons. McVie then coached the Devils in 1983-84 and then again in 1990-91 and 1991-92. McVie has since been with the Boston Bruins for 21 years, 16 years as a scout. He had his name etched on the Stanley Cup in 2011 with the Bruins.
