1980-82 Charlie Simmer Los Angeles Kings Game Worn Jersey
Lot #35
This road purple and gold mesh gamer by Goodman & Sons was worn by Charlie Simmer circa the 1980-82 NHL seasons. The California Golden Seals selected Simmer in the 3rd round of the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft. Simmer made his NHL debit in 1974-75 with the Golden Seals. After 2 years with the Seals and another with the Cleveland Barons, Charlie joined the Los Angeles Kings where he would form the LW side of the famed Triple Crown Line. Skating alongside Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne and Dave Taylor did wonders for Simmer’s game. Charlie became a goal-scoring machine, averaging well in excess of a point per game during his more than 7 seasons with the Kings. He netted 56 goals in back to back seasons for LA despite missing a fair number of games to injury and also took a serious run in 1980-81 at Maurice Rocket Richard’s record of 50-Goals in 50-Games, falling a goal shy of the mark. In 1984 Simmer, moved onto Boston where he skated for 3 years before spending a final season with the Penguins in 1987-88. Simmer ended his 712 game career with 342 goals and 711 points. He was the 1986 recipient of the Bill Masterton Trophy, was twice a 1st Team NHL All Star and played in 2 NHL All Star Games.

The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, inner pilling and heavy team-sewn repair work to the left sleeve. Simmer was magnificent and enjoyed an epic season in 1980-81 as he set his sights on Rocket Richard’s 50-goals in 50-games, falling just shy of the mark. Charlie finished the 1980-81 season with 56 goals and 105 points and went a +65 in 65 games. Charlie succumbed to injury after just 50 games the following year and scored 15 goals and 39 points before returning for the playoff run that saw him score 4 goals and 11 points to go along with 22 PIMS in 10 games played. A terrific vintage purple and gold example from the prime of the Triple Crown Line as Simmer lit the NHL on fire with his scoring prowess from the Left Wing, earning 1st Team NHL All Star honors and an All Star Game appearance in 1981.
