1980-81 Peter Stastny Quebec Nordiques Game Worn Jersey - Rookie - Calder Trophy
Lot #247
This home white knit gamer by Maska was worn by Peter Stastny during the 1980-81 NHL season, his rookie and Calder Trophy winning year. Stastny entered the NHL in 1980 following a lengthy professional career in Communist Czechoslovakia where he starred alongside his two brothers. He defected from Czechoslovakia along with his younger brother Anton and was followed a year later by his older brother Marian. Together, the trio played for the Quebec Nordiques and dazzled fans all across North America with their immense talent. Peter was awarded the Calder Trophy as the leagues top rookie in 1980-81, following the first of his 7 different 100-point seasons during the decade of the 1980’s. Due to the late start of his NHL career, Stastny’s final numbers are somewhat tempered, albeit still very impressive. He ended his career with 450 goals, 789 assists and 1239 points in only 977 games and was one of the highest scoring players of the 1980’s, a decade which saw him partake in 6 different NHL All Star games. Peter proudly wore the Captain’s “C” in Quebec for 5 years and will forever be remembered as one of the finest that ever donned a Nordiques sweater. Following his days in Quebec, Stastny joined the New Jersey Devils where he played for parts of 4 years before spending a final 2 years with the St. Louis Blues.

The game wear on this rookie sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, plenty of colorful board paint transfer, washed out bloodstains, inner pilling and nearly a couple of handfuls of team-sewn repairs, some of the patchwork variety. The original Maska ultrafil tag and the size 50 wash instruction tag remain sewn in the collar while the double cloth fight strap has been cut down in size. The fragile screened on areas of this gamer has suffered loss as seen in the photos above, while the P.Stastny remains nearly perfectly intact. It was while wearing this sweater that Stastny set the rookie point scoring record, a mark only surpassed by Teemu Selanne in 1992-93. To our knowledge this is the only Peter Stastny rookie jersey to ever come to market and as such would make a great addition to any Hall of Fame collection!
