1980-81 Mike Rogers Hartford Whalers Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match - All Star Season - The New England Collection
Lot #29
This fresh to the hobby example is part of an exciting collection of newly discovered game worn hockey jerseys that were originally sourced from “New England”. This collection is being offered to the hobby for the very first time via the Spring 2015 Auction, exclusively at GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET.

This home white mesh and knit gamer by Good Sports was worn by Mike Rogers during the 1980-81 NHL season. Rogers began his professional career in 1974-75 in the WHA, where he spent 5 seasons before joining the NHL at the time of the WHA’s collapse and subsequent merge. Mike spent parts of 2 seasons with the Oilers before joining the New England Whalers where he played on a line with Gordie and Mark Howe. After averaging nearly a point per game in the WHA, Rogers lifted his game another notch when he joined the NHL. Mike remained a Whaler and spent two seasons with the Hartford Whalers and notched 40+ goals and exactly 105 points in each of them. These totals placed Mike in the NHL’s top 10 in scoring both seasons and earned Mike his only NHL All Star game appearance in 1980-81. Mike joined the New York Rangers in 1981-82 and spent parts of 5 years with the club. In his first season on Broadway, Rogers tallied 103 points and in doing so remains one of only four players to have scored 100 points in each of their first 3 NHL seasons. When Mike retired he had notched 202 goals and 519 points in 484 NHL games.

Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the Captain’s “C”. Sewn in the collar are the manufacturers, wash, size and year tagging. The game wear on this size 48 sweater is solid and consists of numerous stick and slash marks, some board burns, an un-repaired burn hole, sweat stains, inner pilling and several team-sewn repairs that all reside in the area of the front collar and extend almost to the top of the crest. Sewn to the inside back player numbers is the original double garter style fight strap. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Rogers wearing this exact jersey during the 1980-81 season. This exciting Captain’s jersey is fresh to the hobby, sports solid game use and a photo match and was worn during Mike’s final year with the Whalers as he struck for 40 Goals and 105 Points en route to his only NHL All Star season, choice!
