1980-81 Mike Milbury Bruins Game Worn Jersey
Lot #21

This road black knit and mesh gamer by Stall & Dean was worn by Mike Milbury during the 1980-81 NHL season. This Massachusetts native spent his entire 12 year career with the Boston Bruins. He spent the early part of his career under the guidance of legendary coach Don Cherry, which undoubtedly helped form Mike’s playing style. Milbury was a tough defenseman, always playing with an edge, and was known to have a short fuse. In 754 regular season games, Mike racked up 1552 PIMS. In another 86 playoff contests he tabbed 219 more PIMS. Following his playing days Mike began a career that included both head coaching and General Manager’s duties.

Sewn into the collar of this jersey is the Stall and Dean, size and wash tagging. The front neckline has been vented to allow for more room. The game use on this vintage sweater is solid. There are stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer, inner pilling and many team-sewn repairs. We estimate that there are 40-50 team-sewn repairs that cover major areas of the sleeves and are also scattered about the body and shoulders of this Bruins gamer. On both arms the repairs just blend into and on top of one another making an accurate count impossible. On the back number 2, in Mike’s own hand, is a sharpie signature. Mike’s highest regular season PIM output occurred in 1980-81, while wearing this very jersey. That season he spent 222 minutes in the sin bin, which helps explain the wear and tear found on this sweater. This is a tremendous example from the end of the Stall and Dean era.
