This road black mesh gamer by Stall & Dean was worn by Mike Milbury during the 1980-81 NHL season. This Brighton, MA native and Colgate University alum began his NHL career in 1975-76 with the Boston Bruins. Mike spent his entire 12-year NHL career with the Bruins, playing in 754 games and accumulating 1552 PIMS. Milbury was a hard-nosed defenseman, whose playing style was formed in part under the guidance of legendary coach Don Cherry during the early part of his career. Under Cherry, Milbury and the Bruins made back-to-back-to-back deep playoff runs in the late 1970’s only to fall short of the ultimate prize at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens each time, twice in the Finals and once in the Semi’s.
Sewn into the collar of this jersey are the Stall & Dean, size and wash tagging. The front collar has been vented. The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, areas of fine pilling and a total of 40-50 team-sewn repairs that cover major areas of the sleeves and are also scattered about the shoulders and body of this vintage Bruins gamer. Also worthy of mention is an autograph on the back player number and a nameplate restoration. While wearing this jersey during the 1980-81 season, Milbury compiled a career single season best 222 PIMS, helping to explain the tremendous game use. A nice example from the latter days of the Stall & Dean era in Boston.
