1980-81 Don Murdoch Wichita Wind Game Worn Jersey - Inaugural Season - Playoff MVP
Lot #281
This road blue knit gamer by Maska was last worn by Don Murdoch during the 1980-81 CHL season. The New York Rangers made Murdoch the 6th overall pick in the 1976 NHL Amatuer Draft. Murdoch debuted with the Rangers in 1976-77 and netted 32 goals as a rookie. He spent 4 years on Broadway and was an integral part of the Rangers trip to the 1979 Stanley Cup Finals. Murdoch next spent a couple of years with the Edmonton Oilers and wrapped up his NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings.

Murdoch was awarded the 1980-81 CHL Max McNab Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs while wearing this sweater. Donnie netted 17 goals and 24 points to go along with 24 PIMS in 18 playoff games. Murdoch spent the 1980-81 season with the Edmonton Oilers and their CHL affiliate, the Wichita Wind. Wichita was Edmonton’s top farm team and 1980-81 was their inaugural season. Garnet “Ace” Bailey, who died in the Twin Towers on 9-11, coached Wichita to game 7 of the 1980-81 CHL Finals where they lost to Joe Mullen’s Salt Lake City team. The Wind, which survived as a franchise for just 3 years, featured a number of current and future Edmonton Oilers including Andy Moog, Ron Low, Dave Semenko and Charlie Huddy.

The game wear on this size 52 sweater is tremendous and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, trauma, stitch pops, pulls, loads of inner pilling and more than a dozen team-sewn repairs. This hammered vintage offering was worn by this former NHL standout as he led his team to game 7 of the CHL Finals and captured the playoff MVP in the process!
