1980-81 Darryl Sittler Toronto Maple Leafs Game Worn Jersey Guy Kinnear Letter
Lot #1
This jersey originates from the personal collection of Toronto Maple Leafs trainer, Guy Kinnear and will be accompanied by Mr. Kinnear’s signed LOA.

This home white mesh gamer by Sandow SK was worn by Darryl Sittler during the 1980-81 NHL season. The Toronto Maple Leafs selected Sittler in the 1st round of the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft. Sittler made his NHL debut with the Leafs in 1970-71 and spent parts of 12 seasons with the franchise. During the 1981-82 season, Sittler was dealt to the Philadelphia Flyers where he spent three years before wrapping up his career with the Detroit Red Wings. In a Hall of Fame career that spanned 15 seasons, this Center scored 484 goals, 637 assists and 1121 points. Darryl was the first Maple Leafs player to reach 100-points in a season, doing so in 1975-76, a year that saw him set the NHL mark with 10-points in a single game. Later that season, Sittler scored 5-goals in a playoff game against Philadelphia and then netted the overtime winner in the 1976 Canada Cup finale to give Team Canada the victory. Sittler earned 2nd Team NHL All Star honors in 1978 and was a four-time NHL All Star who was inducted to the Hall of Fame with the class of 1989.

Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the Captain’s “C”. The game wear on this size 50 XL sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns and inner pilling. A custom fight strap is affixed to the inner verso. This set of Sandow gamers were worn by the Maple Leafs during the second half of the 1980-81 season and also during the 1980-81 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the New York Islanders. As noted by Guy Kinnear, the former Maple Leafs trainer in his LOA, these jerseys were dry cleaned regularly to remove stick and puck marks and were eventually taken out of service due to a blue color bleed. This example does show some of those referenced faded blue spots. The 1980-81 season saw Sittler light the lamp 43 times and add 53 assists for 96 points, one of the finest seasons of his accomplished career. A beautiful example, complete with the coveted letter of honor and accompanied by impeccable provenance in the form of a signed LOA by Toronto Maple Leafs trainer Guy Kinnear.
