Description
1980-81 Charlie Simmer Los Angeles Kings Game Worn Jersey - Career Best 56-Goal & 105-Point Season - 1st Team NHL All Star
Lot #96

This home gold mesh gamer by Goodman & Sons was worn by Charlie Simmer during the 1980-81 NHL season. The California Golden Seals selected Simmer in the 3rd round of the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft. Simmer began his career with the Golden Seals in 1974-75. After 2 years with the Seals and another with the Cleveland Barons, Charlie joined the Los Angeles Kings where he would form the LW side of the famed Triple Crown Line. Skating alongside Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne and Captain Dave Taylor did wonders for Simmer’s game. Charlie became a goal-scoring machine, averaging well in excess of a point per game during his 7+ seasons with the Kings. He netted 56 goals in back to back seasons for LA despite missing a fair number of games to injury. In 1984, Simmer moved onto Boston where he skated for 3 years before spending a final season with the Penguins in 1987-88. Simmer ended his 712 game career with 342 goals and 711 points. He was the 1986 recipient of the Bill Masterton Trophy, was twice a 1st Team NHL All Star and played in 2 NHL All Star games.

The 1980-81 season was a special one for Simmer as he took aim at Maurice “Rocket” Richard’s record of 50 goals in 50 games. Ultimately Charlie fell a goal short and later in the year suffered a season ending injury. That season, Charlie netted 56 goals for the second year in a row, doing so in 64 and 65 games respectively. His tremendous scoring acumen earned him his second consecutive 1st Team NHL All Star selection at Left Wing.

Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the Goodman & Sons tagging. The game wear on this size XXL sweater is solid and consists of stick marks, plenty of board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, stitch pops, loads of inner pilling and some fantastic team-sewn repair work with each sleeve having a large patch sewn to the inside to provide backing to the heavy elbow wear, burns and repairs. The name on back has been removed by the Kings and lost to history. A well-worn vintage purple and gold example from the prime of the Triple Crown Line that was worn during the season that Simmer took aim at 50 goals in 50 games!
