1980-81 Charlie Huddy Edmonton Oilers Game Worn Jersey - Rookie - 1st NHL game - 1st Goal, 1st Assist & 1st Point - "Alberta 75-year anniversary" - Team Letter
Lot #361

This road blue knit gamer by Sandow SK was worn by Charlie Huddy during the 1980-81 NHL season, his rookie year. Huddy began his NHL career playing with the Edmonton Oilers in 1980-81. He would soon become a fixture on the team’s defensive corps, spending his first 11 seasons with the Oilers. During that span Charlie won 5 Stanley Cups. He would later follow his longtime teammates Wayne Gretzky and Jari Kurri to Los Angeles, where he played for parts of 4 seasons. Huddy wrapped up his career with stints in St. Louis and Buffalo in the mid 1990’s. All told, Huddy spent 17 years and 1017 games patrolling NHL creases and bluelines. While not depended on for producing offensively, Charlie put forth a 20-goal season in 1982-83 and added 20 points in 17 playoff contests during the Oilers 1984-85 Stanley Cup run.

This spectacular rookie jersey was worn by Huddy as he made his NHL debut on November 15th at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. Charlie assisted on a goal and registered his first ever NHL point that night during his first ever NHL game! On November 16th, the following night, at the Stadium in Chicago, Huddy scored his first ever NHL goal while wearing this exact jersey!

Sewn to the right shoulder of this gamer is the Alberta 75-year anniversary patch. The Oilers only wore these Sandow knits during the first half of the 1980-81 NHL season. This beautiful road example shows game use that consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired holes and pilling both inside and out. The original garter and loop style fight strap sits inside and has been reinforced with plenty of extra stitching. An incredible example that is tied to all of Huddy’s important career 1sts, choice! This jersey will be accompanied by an Oilers team letter.
