1980-81 Bobby Schmautz Canucks Game Worn Jersey
Lot #10

This home yellow heavy mesh gamer by Sandow was worn by Bobby Schmautz during the 1980-81 NHL season. Schmautz began his career in 1967 with the Chicago Black Hawks. In 1970-71 he became a member of the expansion Vancouver Canucks. During his 4th year in Vancouver Bobby was dealt to the Bruins where he played for the next 7 seasons. Two trades during the 1979-80 season took Schmautz from Boston to Edmonton and then onto Colorado. He was signed as a free agent by the Canucks prior to the 1980-81 season, which was to be his final season in the league. Schmautz was selected to represent the Vancouver franchise in both the 1973 and 1974 NHL All Star games. He wrapped up his career with an impressive 271 goals and 557 points and the admiration of fans in both Boston and Vancouver where he spent the majority of his playing days.

The 1980-81 season was one of Bobby’s most productive offensively, despite it being his last. He netted 27 goals and 61 points in 73 games of play while wearing this very sweater. The game use is solid consisting of numerous stick marks, board burns, pilling, un-repaired holes and a couple of team-sewn repairs. These mega heavy Sandow gamers, with all sewn-on lettering, numbers and V-style piping were worn for only 1 season. The following year the Canucks switched to a Sandow made jersey without all of the heavy sewn-on attributes. These all sewn-on V-style Sandow gamers remain quite popular in collecting circles.
