1980-81 Bill Barber Philadelphia Flyers Game Worn Jersey
Lot #12
This road orange mesh gamer by Goodman & Sons was worn by Bill Barber during the 1980-81 NHL season. The Philadelphia Flyers selected Barber with the 7th overall pick in the 1972 NHL Amatuer Draft. Barber joined the Flyers during the 1972-73 season and remained a fixture on the Left Wing of their top line for the next 12 years. A career Flyer, Barber earned a spot in the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1990, thanks in part to nine seasons of 30+ goals. On five occasions Bill topped the 40-goal plateau and he netted a career best 50 goals and 112 points in 1975-76. Barber formed the left side of the ‘LCB’ line, one of hockey’s best during the decade of the 1970’s. He scored 420 goals during his career, wore the Captain’s “C” in one of his later years and had his number 7 retired by the only team he played for, the Philadelphia Flyers. Billy played in 4 Stanley Cup Finals, winning 2 of them during the height of the Broad Street Bullies era in the mid 1970’s. He would also play a key role for the 1979-80 team that ran off an unbelievable 35-game game unbeaten streak as he made his 4th and final trip to the Cup Finals that spring. Barber played in 6 NHL All Star games and was 3-times a 1st or 2nd Team NHL All Star. On the international scene, Barber played an important role scoring the key goal that forced overtime in the Final series of the 1976 Canada Cup. He also represented the NHL in the 1979 Challenge Cup and played in the 1981 World Championships.

The 1980-81 season was statistically one of Barber’s finest. He lit the lamp 43 times and registered 85 points during the regular season before scoring 11 goals and 16 points in 12 playoff games that spring! Offered here is Barber’s road jersey from that memorable season. The game wear on this Goodman’s mesh is on the lighter side and consists of some stick marks, board burns, inner pilling and a team-sewn repair to the front collar. Also worthy of mention are the all-important tiny pinholes that are found scattered about the player numbers on both the back and sleeves. This is a commonly found trait on Flyers gamers and was used to aid the seamstress to apply the final stage of stitching. Barber jerseys have been elusive to say the very least. They are easily the most difficult to obtain of the “LCB” line and appear very infrequently if ever at auction, this offering is a first for us! A missing Hall of Fame sweater in many collections and a constant on many Flyers collectors want lists. Don’t miss your opportunity to acquire the only Bill Barber Philadelphia Flyers jersey to appear at auction in recent memory!
