Description
1979 Darcy Rota Atlanta Flames Game Worn Jersey
Lot #52
This home white mesh and knit combo was worn by Darcy Rota during the 1979 NHL season. The Chicago Blackhawks selected Rota with the 13th pick in the 1973 NHL Amateur Draft. Rota spent 6 seasons in Chicago before a blockbuster trade sent him to the Atlanta Flames in the spring of 1979 in exchange for Tom Lysiak among others. Merely one year later, the Flames saw fit to make Rota the principal in a deal with the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for their Captain, Don Lever. Darcy spent parts of 5 years in Vancouver and enjoyed a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1982. Rota set a career high in goals 42, assists 39 and points 81 in 1982-83 and led the NHL in shooting percentage that season. He also represented the Canucks in the 1984 NHL All Star game. Rota retired after suffering a serious neck injury that he was unable to recover from.

The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, inner pilling and several team-sewn repairs. Also worthy of mention is that the base of the fight strap remains sewn in place while the remainder was cut away and evidence of a nameplate change also exists. A well-worn example, worn during the last days of the Atlanta franchise by this former 40-Goal man and NHL All Star.
