1979-81 Reggie Lemelin Birmingham Bulls Game Worn Jersey
Lot #579

This home white mesh gamer by Russell Athletic was worn by Reggie Lemelin during the 1979-81 CHL seasons. Reggie began his goaltending career in the QMJHL having spent 2 seasons with Sherbrooke. He next spent parts of 5 seasons with the Philadelphia Firebirds during the mid to late 1970’s. During that span he had brief stints with the Richmond Robins and the Springfield Indians. Lemelin made his NHL debut in 1978-79 playing 18 games with the Atlanta Flames, the franchise with which he would spend his first 9 NHL seasons. The following year saw Reggie play in only 3 games with Atlanta. The rest of the season was spent with the Birmingham Bulls where Lemelin suited up in 38 contests. Reggie would spend another 13 games with Birmingham the following year before becoming a mainstay in the Calgary Flames lineup.

While in Calgary Lemelin’s squad made a lone Stanley Cup Finals appearance and walked away second best to the Patrick Roy led Montreal Canadiens in 1986. Lemelin’s final 6 years in the NHL were spent with the Boston Bruins. During that time he appeared in 2 Stanley Cup Finals, falling at the hands of the Edmonton Oilers dynasty on both occasions. Lemelin appeared in 17 playoff contests during the exciting 1988 playoffs, giving his hometown Bruins fans quite a thrill in his first season with the team. Reggie was the recipient of the 1989-90 Jennings Trophy for his shared excellence between the pipes. His career record of 236 Wins and 63 ties against only 162 losses is quite impressive.

Sewn in the collar of this gamer is the Russell Athletic tag. Sewn alongside is the Hibbett tag. The game wear on this goalie sweater consists of stick and puck marks, goal post paint transfer, washed out bloodstains and pilling. A nice early career vintage example that was donned by this ever-popular netminder during his brief time with the Birmingham Bulls.
