1979-81 Mike Foligno Detroit Red Wings Game Worn Jersey - Rookie Era
Lot #82

This road red mesh gamer by Stall & Dean and Olympic Sporting Goods was worn by Mike Foligno during either his rookie season in 1979-80 or the 1980-81 NHL season. The Detroit Red Wings selected Foligno with the 3rd overall pick in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft. Foligno burst onto the scene with a bang, netting 36 goals and 71 points to go along with 109 PIMS in his rookie season of 1979-80. Mike went on to a career that spanned 1018 games over the course of 15 seasons. During that time he netted 355 goals and 727 points to go along with 2049 PIMS. Mike spent his first 2+ seasons with the Red Wings before joining the Buffalo Sabres in a deal for Danny Gare and Jim Schoenfeld. Mike would spend parts of 10 years in Buffalo, parts of 4 more in Toronto and then a final stint with the expansion Florida Panthers.

Sewn into the hem of this gamer is the Olympic Sporting Goods tag. Sewn into the collar is the wash tagging. Missing from alongside is the Stall & Dean tag. The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes, inner pilling and a couple of team-sewn repairs. The original garter style fight strap has some extra wraps of tape added by Foligno and remains sewn to the inside just between the back player numbers. An autograph in Foligno’s own hand resides on the back player number. A fantasic vintage gamer that was worn by this 40-goal, 2000+ PIMS man circa his rookie season.
