1979-81 Bill Hajt Buffalo Sabres Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match
Lot #29
This road blue knit jersey by Maska was worn by Bill Hajt during the 1979-80 NHL regular season and playoffs as well as the 1980-81 season. The Buffalo Sabres selected Hajt in the 3rd round of the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft. Hajt spent all 14 of his NHL seasons as a member of the Buffalo Sabres, helping to solidify him as a hometown favorite. Bill wasn’t an offensive minded defenseman, but was steady and reliable. He was an integral part of the memorable Stanley Cup Finals run in 1975, his 2nd pro season, and thrived under new boss Scotty Bowman playing a key role in the Sabres 1979-80 rebirth. All told Bill spent 854 regular season games and another 80 playoff games dressed in the Sabres blue and gold.

Hall of Famer Scotty Bowman took over the reigns in Buffalo in 1979-80 and led his new charge to the Adams Division title with 110 points while allowing a mere 201 goals against, a league best total. The Sabres stormed into the playoffs and defeated the Canucks and the Blackhawks before falling at the hands of the New York Islanders dynasty in a nailbiting Semi Final series, falling just shy of the Stanley Cup Finals, thus completing one of the most exciting seasons in team history.
The game wear on this 2nd set size 50 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes, stitch pops, material pulls, heavy inner pilling and no less than a couple of handfuls of team-sewn repairs. Shown above are some beautiful photo matches of Hajt wearing this exact jersey during the 1980 Stanley Cup Playoffs. A well-worn photo matched example that was donned by this fan favorite during one of the most exciting periods in franchise history.
