Lot #20

This home white mesh gamer by Steichens and Stall and Dean was worn by Steve Payne during the 1979-80 NHL season, his sophomore season. The Minnesota North Stars selected Payne in the 2nd round of the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft. This Toronto native made his NHL debut in 1978-79 with the North Stars. Payne played his entire 10-year NHL career at the Met with Minnesota. Steve notched four 30-Goal Seasons that included a career best 42-Goal effort in his second year in the league. Payne played in two NHL All Star Games and was a member of the club that trekked to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1981 against the New York Islanders. During those playoffs, Steve was magnificent with 17 goals and 29 points in 19 postseason games.

Sewn into the collar of this gamer are the manufacturers, wash and year tagging. The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, fine inner pilling and 20 team-sewn repairs. A fantastic well-worn offering hailing from the season that saw Payne strike for a career best 42 Goals and 85 Points while wearing this sweater on home ice at the Met. This sophomore also earned himself the first All Star Game appearance of his career.
