1979-80 Pete Mahovlich Detroit Red Wings Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match
Lot #29

This home white mesh gamer by Stall and Dean was worn by Pete Mahovlich during the 1979-80 NHL season. The Detroit Red Wings selected Mahovlich with the 2nd overall pick in the 1963 NHL Amateur Draft. “Little M”, the younger brother of Hall of Famer Frank Mahovlich, made his NHL debut with the Red Wings in 1965-66. He would spend the first 4 years of his 16-year NHL career in the Motor City before returning for another 2-year stint to wrap up his playing days in 1981. In between his time with the Red Wings, Mahovlich spent 9 seasons with the Montreal Canadiens where he won 4 Stanley Cup Championships in the 1970’s. Pete also played with the Pittsburgh Penguins for parts of 2 seasons following his time with Montreal. Mahovlich tallied five 30-Goal seasons that saw him partake in a pair of NHL All Star Games. The 1974-75 season was Pete’s finest as he lit the lamp 35 times and added 82 assists for 117 points! On the international stage, this imposing 6’ 5” forward represented Team Canada in the 1972 Summit Series.

Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the manufacturers, wash, size and year tagging. The game wear on this size 52 sweater, while on the lighter side, is highlighted by 3 team-sewn repairs. The original garter style fight strap remains sewn perfectly to the inside, just beneath the back player numbers. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Mahovlich wearing this exact jersey during the 1979-80 season. Mahovlich joined the Wings for the 2nd time in 1979-80 and proceeded to put forth a strong 66-point effort upon his return to the Motor City. A beautiful photo matched offering worn by this 2-time NHL All Star during his last full NHL season.
